To Bedford for the Beaufort

A stunning sunny autumnus November morning and we were off, together with a flask of coffee and a roll of sticky tape to attach the registration plate.

Advert, after advert

Having spent 4 weeks trawling through eBay and Facebook adverts for a Horse box, we finally found the one.

A 30 year old Rice Beaufort Double Horse Box Trailer.

Lights work fine we were told, it’s in great condition we were told, and so the journey from Yorkshire to Bedfordshire was underway.

Without, may I add, one of our founding partners Chris Illingworth who was otherwise engaged at a christening, never has a christening felt so appealing!.

UK Motorway at night

10 hours?

Whilst the trip there was a doddle. the journey back a disaster.

Almost immediately, the realisation strikes that a 7-point plug adapter is not something we own, for the back of my car to connect to the trailers lighting system, it’s a must.

And so a 9 mile trip to Halfords without break lights or indicators was the risk we took to get back on the road home to Halifax.

Unfortunately for us, our troubles didn’t end there, whilst we now had an adapter, the lights didn’t actually work and with light fading fast we needed an immediate plan.

All Halfords had in stock to aid our situation was a light board designed for a bike rack, whilst it wasn’t the perfect solution, it was the only solution we had.

Therefore with sticky tape in hand, we attached the lights to the trailer and 2 hours later than planned our journey back to the North was about to commence.

The weather changed that evening and a mixture of wind, rain & high winds absolutely battered us on the way home.

There were several stops to re-secure doors and hatches with one such stop attracting attention from the Highway Patrol, luckily for us we waved us on our way.

10 hours later, we were home and a new journey as proud owners of a Horse Box was about to commence.
